Holy Night 10 – 2019
January 2-3 – Libra
The night in which the greatest sacrifice grows from service: learning to listen to the inner voice and the signs of divinity, and to hear them obediently.
Mystery: the voice calling in us through our various incarnations. Its clarity grows through sacrifice and decision.
Rudolf Steiner’s indications for the Holy Nights given to Herbert Hahn

Mysterium: Der Rufer in uns durch die verschiedenen Inkarnationen hindurch: Seine Klarheit nimmt zu durch Opfer und Entscheidung. Rudolf Steiner

How often do we listen to our Higher Self – the voice calling in us through our various incarnations? How often do we distinguish between our created self and our Higher Self? The created self can also be called our personal self, it is made up of all our inner secret thoughts and feelings. Every second of every day we have these thoughts and feelings – usually tugging against each other. We can have a kind thought or feeling about someone followed by a critical thought or feeling. One way to deal with these is to ask ourselves how it would be if we spoke them aloud to the person. Or if they spoke them to us. Or if we spoke them to ourselves. How would we feel?
It is a great sacrifice on our part to remove these unhelpful habits from our mind. We realize that through our created self we are judging the created self of the other person. What is the point of that! We are told that through the mystery of this Holy Night “clarity grows through sacrifice and decision.”
We can make the decision to offer up these lower thoughts and feelings which are formed by our social environment as well as through our karma from various past incarnations. We choose to incarnate with those people who can assist us to adjust the consequences of our past deeds while at the same time contributing to the forming of our created selves. If we think about this for a moment we can see how this operates at a subconscious level.
Our task is to become conscious, and we start by becoming aware of every little thought and feeling that informs our activity. The clarity that arises in us will not always be easy to handle but we can keep assuring ourselves that we are contributing to the evolving future.
“In general, human beings of our present age will separate themselves into two parts: those who today form no idea of all this, who know nothing of the preparation of the sixth epoch, who live as it were blindly, for the day, and those who form ideas for themselves that something new is preparing, and who also know that what is being prepared is fundamentally something which must be accomplished through human beings, must be prepared by mankind.” The Ego Lecture 1, December 4, 1909
We have so much to offer, which can be seen negatively as a sacrifice, or as a gift to a future where human beings truly love. This love is divine, we all yearn for it without realizing that we can create it – in every moment of every day.
