Holy Night 6
December 29-30 – Gemini
Now follow the three nights of the sword.
Peter’s night. Night of the consecration of the sword. Each of us must forge his or her own sword of discernment. Each of us must unite our spiritual will with the eternal, the immortal, and the perishable, and in this way we shall recognize the truth.
Mystery: Bring together the Son of God with the Son of Man – Unity.
Rudolf Steiner’s indications for the Holy Nights given to Herbert Hahn
Translation from German by Laura Zanutto 2015 adjusted by Mark Willan 2016

29./30. – Zwillinge
Die drei Nächte des Schwertes.
Petrus-Nacht.
Einssein!

The consecration of the sword, our spiritual will, is the task of our time. Rudolf Steiner says, “Consecration is actually the separation of the human being, or that part of the human being, from being entangled in the earthly.” October 1, 1921
In this sense, he says that “consecration is really the dividing boundary between two worlds.” This means that we must approach this boundary and, using our will, enable ourselves to participate on both sides of this boundary; the earthly and the spiritual. Not one at the expense of the other, but both at the same time.
Rudolf Steiner spoke of consecration in terms of working with others in groups. The commitment and dedication to the group’s purpose, and the contribution each person can make, is a consecration.
“So you see, it is only through the wisdom of spiritual science itself that we can understand what we are really doing in respect of our connection with the spiritual worlds when we come together in these working groups. The thought that we do this work not only for the sake of our own egos, but in order that it may stream upward into the spiritual worlds, the thought that this work is connected with the spiritual worlds, this is the true consecration of a working group. To cherish such a thought is to permeate ourselves with the consciousness of the consecration that is the foundation of a working group within the Movement. It is therefore of great importance to grasp this fact in its true spiritual sense.” Preparing for the Sixth Epoch 15 June 1915
Then he spoke of the consecration that can happen within us though our commitment to become aware of our place in the Universe, and our subsequent contribution to the harmony of the Universe.
“We must seek this mental attitude above all. For inner consecration must be there if the meditation is to contribute to initiation. And this inner consecration comes only from the attitude through which we are displaced from the outer world for a while and live exclusively within the content and elements of the meditation. If we can do this so that self-knowledge is not merely an inner brooding, but is an explicit conversation with the universe, the Guardian and the Hierarchies, then we will find ourselves in possession of true self-knowledge.” Esoteric Lessons 11th May, 1924
These are the ways we can “Bring together the Son of God with the Son of Man” and create unity.
