Advent Week 2
Week Two – the etheric body
The second light of Advent is the light of plants–
Plants that reach up to the sun and in the breezes dance. R. Steiner
After contemplating our relationship with our physical body, during the second week of Advent we turn our attention to our etheric body. Without our etheric body our physical body would die. A good way to understand this is to place a piece of fruit on a plate and watch how it changes each day until it begins to shrivel and grow mold. The life-force that gave the fruit its freshness is the etheric. The earth’s etheric is an airy water-filled garment from which all things receive life.
The plant kingdom is the physical manifestation of the etheric world. It yearns for the sun and it would leap up there if it wasn’t anchored by its physical substance. Within us, our physical substance anchors our etheric body in place, creating the right balance between these two forces. A question to ask ourselves is how vital is our etheric body? What are we doing to maintain the vitality of our etheric body so that it doesn’t become moldy, or dried up and woody?
One of the best ways to maintain the health and strength of our etheric body is to contemplate the esoteric truth about the being of Christ. Each year in December Christ is born again into the finer elements of the earth. Two thousand years ago Mary gave birth to Jesus who, at his baptism, received into himself the Cosmic Christ. Each year in December, we prepare to give birth to our I Am so that at Epiphany on January 6 we will receive Christ into our being in greater measure than before.
